Albuquerque

After Roswell we went to Alburquerque, and looked around the 'old town', which was very pretty and picturesque.

Laura amused about 4 OAPs who sat and watched her try and attempt this photo.

On the way out of albuqueque, we travelled on Route 66, which had the famous Diner 66. It looked exactly how you would imagine a proper American diner, and the food was really good too.

Roswell

Next stop was Roswell, where we went to the Alien museum. It told you all about sightings of aliens, UFO's and everything you need to know about the supposed alien crash in Roswell. After reading all the reports and things, I SO BELIEVE it happened!

I couldn't stop myself buying some sort of alien merchandise! 

I think Roswell have tried to cash in on anything alien.

Amarillo

We stayed at the Big Texan Motel on Route 66, which has a famous restaurant, which was featured on Man Vs Food because of their 72 oz steak! If you eat it, including the baked potato, roll, salad and prawn cocktail within an hour, you get it for free. I'd tried to get Laura to do the challenge, but she was too scared to sit at the table on her own, so she opted for the 1/4 size challenge, and she couldn't even finish that so turns out it was a good thing that she was too scared, cause we'd have had to pay $72 for the steak!!

The motel itself was great the rooms were themed like a saloon.

Even though she couldn't finish the steak, she still wanted pudding, but I think it pushed her over the edge. It was a good job the hotel was only over the road. Laura still craves that chocolate cake she says its the best she's ever had.

The next day we went to the infamous cadillac ranch. Basically it's 10 cadillacs in the ground, and you can go up and paint whatever you want on them! Was a fun thing to see, and it was free so always a good thing.

Dallas

What a FEAST! No wonder my once baggy jeans are becoming more like skinny jeans every day :(

The 6th floor window on the right is where Lee Harvey Oswald fired his gun. We went into the Museum which is called the '6th floor Museum' and learnt a lot about JFK and his life leading up until his death, and it was really interesting, and a little sad at times. One woman was walking round just weeping. 

We went to our first Baseball game, and got to see the Texas Rangers play. I have to say we both enjoyed every minute of it. Laura understood the game more than me, but we had 2 fans next to us who were explaining everything to us. Unfortunately they lost, but the atmosphere was still amazing and we're itching to go to another game.

Because it was a Friday, we managed to see the fireworks at the end of the game which added to the experience. Loved it!

Austin

We spent the day sunbathing around the lake, people and dog watching.

 I don't think this little thing liked the water.

We spent the next morning having a stroll through a shopping area that was full of vintage shops, which we both really liked. We ended up buying a new suitcase from an antique store for $8, bargain! We needed something to put all the stuff we've bought in.  However, we didn't realise until a few days later that they didn't make suitcases with wheels on in the 1950's!!!

San Antonio

Had the 'famous' chicken fried steak in Lulus bakery, which was on Man Vs Food. Weren't the best thing I've eaten, but then I am very fussy so I'm probably not the best person to get a review off. The bakery was on Man Vs Food because they also sold a cinnamon bun that weighed a pound, but neither of us like cinnamon, which it seems everyone in America does, so we didn't try it.

The Alamo

We visited the Alamo, which is the site of a Battle, between Mexico and Texas, and was interesting to walk around. A bit of culture for us, but I have to admit, I only knew about it because of Top Gear.

Spent the afternoon walking around the canals. It was SO hot, we went into the nearest bar we could, which turned out to be an Irish bar and Laura got drunk on one Long Island Iced tea while we watched some football on the tv. Very dramatic as it went to penalties. Think the Germans won.

We then went for Mexican. This is me trying out some Tex Mex, very tasty.

 The margarita Laura made me buy however, was not!!!!!!! And theres a mariachi band sneaking up behind me, but I couldn't concentrate because I was holding back the vomit. We got talking to a couple from Denver during dinner and I got distracted talking to them and managed to finish the drink.

New Orleans

Next stop is New Orleans. Found this old classic at the start of the Mississippi river. I welled up after they played the English national anthem on the pipes. Must have been feeling home sick that day!! The Americans all stood up and put their hand on their hearts when theirs played...!

                                                

New Orleans is full of street entertainers, and this chap is just one of the many we got to see! 

An example of the AMAZING buildings they have there, we wanted to live in every single one we saw.

The days we were there, there was some sort of celebration that brought sailors from all over the world into the Port, so they were all walking round, taking in the sites like we were, although we did see a couple being sick in the streets, enjoying their leave a bit too much!

This is taken in the amazing guest house we stayed in, just made us love New Orleans even more. We stayed in one night and got chatting to some of the other guests (hi if you're reading!!) and had a great time comparing cultures.

Laura got dragged up by a brass band that were performing on the street, and someone took this picture of her and emailed it to her which was really nice of him. I was too busy laughing to take any good pictures.
